This stylish and welcoming space is nestled under a fantastic restaurant, boding well for the bar food and a good selection of kitchen-inspired cocktails befitting a San Francisco mixologists' haunt. (Don't let the "drinks list" on the Bacar website fool you; they may have pages & pages of wine, but the spirits are plentiful too).
Under the capable direction of Dominic Venegas and Carlos Yturria since late 2007, with a uniformly exceptional staff (at least as far as the authors have experienced), this is a safe bet for anyone seeking a well-rendered classic or a bold new invention.
As of this writing they are open Friday & Saturday evenings starting at 6pm, with live music (a jazz combo the night we were there that late) starting at 8:30. Early Friday evening is highly recommended, especially when Dominic's eclectic playlist is providing the background.
